Sean,

Great comments about what social media is, why it is useful and how to use it to build relationships. I could not have said it better myself.

I look forward to your book on linkedin and know that it will add value to anyone trying to figure out how to use linkedin as a tool to build business relationships.

Thanks again for your comments and see you around the social media sites!

It's interesting that the more open we get with all of these social media venues the more closed we get to marketing intrusions. Just this morning I received an email from someone saying they had found me on LinkedIn and then proceeded to throw a pitch at me.

People need to remember that before you try to sell me we need to connect somehow, then you need to build trust, then you can pitch me. The social media sites make it easy to connect. Building trust or credibility takes longer. It requires that you provide proof in some form. This may be based on how I perceive you when we talk or meet, it may be through testimonials or endorsements, or it may simply be the language that you use in a profile. It could happen in an instance, but likely is going to take time.

I've posted an article over on my LinkedIn blog at<a href="http://www.gotlinkedin.com/linkedinblog" title="GotLinkedIn.com" rel="nofollow"> about this email and ways you can build credibility and trust.

Blogging is another way to do so because you are providing value to others up front.
